2010 Archive

Slow Pitch

The Girls Softball team did an outstanding job representing our school today in the WCSSAA Playoff Tournament. They lost a close 5-3 match against 2nd ranked SJAM and then got their bats going to win 14-5 against Bluevale, which was one of the best games the girls have played all season! The girls made it to the quarterfinals and lost 8-2 in a very close game against Preston, the first place team in the regular season. The girls showed tremendous improvement and proved they can compete with any school out there. Please congratulate the girls on a terrific season!

On Tuesday April 23rd two of our Doyle students went to the Board office for Student Trustee Elections; Sherry Wong (Grade 10) and Erin Jamieson (Grade 11). There were 7 candidates in total. Both girls did an EXCELLENT job on their presentations. The girls were very mature, well-spoken, and exuded enthusiasm and professionalism.

One of our Doyle students was selected for the position of Student Trustee 2012-2013!! Please congratulate Erin Jamieson if you see her. Please congratulate Sherry Wong as well - she was the runner-up (3rd place).

Erin, we know you will represent Doyle well in your new position and we wish you the best of luck.

Deca International

Jacob Bardwell will be leaving tomorrow for the DECA International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, USA and will be returning on May 4.  He will be one of over 14,000 delegates (including DECA Alumni, advisors, businesspeople and DECA students) attending the convention.

This is an excellent opportunity that I am certain will benefit Jacob both in his activity in DECA and in his contribution to our school community.

Sears Drama Festival

Another successful year for the Doyle Drama Club as they take to the stage in "Body Body". Get all the details here.

We have returned from DECA!

25 Doyle students competed at DECA provincials in Toronto on Monday and Tuesday.  Medallists were Brandon Ratz (top 10 in his written test) and Meghan Brown (top 20 in her role play).  There are up to 150 people in a category, so these represent significant achievements.

Jabob Bardwell was selected to represent Doyle at the Leadership Development Academy in Salt Lake City, USA in April.  He will be joining a delegation of other students from our school board for the trip.

All participants shouls be congratulated - this is a grueling competition with very tough competitors.

Boys Basketball Ends there Season Successfully!

This year the Senior Mustang basketball team rejoined the D8 League playing after a one year absence. The Mustangs were a mixture of boys who played last year in an exhibition schedule and a number of new players.
Led by Uzair Khan, Roberto Artwell and Manny Singh the Mustangs ended up the season finishing fourth in D8 league play and then losing a heart breaker playoff game against St. Davids 40 - 37. During the course of the season the Mustangs played competitively both in league play and in exhibition play with a number of wins both at home, at Southwood and at Jacob Hespeler in tournament play. While we had success on the court and have lots to build on for next year it was especially satisfying to see players like Tyler Saris, Ryan Teet, Mike Danielz, Jordan Cooke, Brandon McCauley and Ryan Stanley contribute so much in tough situations. During the season a number of JR players also were a part of our program with Ryan Stafford being a part of our playoff run. Thank you to Chris Kamzol who helped coach this year and Mr. Marschall and Ms. Costa for their assistance to the program. We look forward to building on our success this year for next season when the Mustangs again hit the court. GO 'STANGS !

Girls Volleyball Success

Please congratulate the Jr Girls Volleyball team as the represented our school extremely well on Friday at their tournament in Guelph. They were the most enthusiastic team by far, cheering not only for themselves but for other teams as well. They showed tremendous improvement throughout the day and never gave up. They finished 1st in their pool after the round-robin and lost a tough match in the semi-finals. We are very proud of their effort!

DECA Success

Our DECA team demonstrated great results at the DECA regional competition on Wednesday at Bingemans.  It was a grueling day of competition that spanned almost 10 hours.  Over 1200 students from across Southwestern Ontario participated in this competition.

Brandon Ratz finished first overall in his category in a field of over 40 participants.

Erin Saliba, Natalie Williamson, Mike Rego and Kristen King rounded out our awards recipients with top 10 finishes in their respective categories.

Strong finishes were also recorded by many other members of our DECA team, qualifying them to move to the provincial round of competition in Toronto in February.

Please congratulate these students on this significant achievement.  I am very proud that Doyle has, once again, proved that it can "punch above its weight" in competition.

Cambridge Christmas Parade

Once again, Monsignor Doyle helps to Keep Christ in Christmas at the Cambridge Santa Clause Parade.

Senior Girls Basket Ball Successful Season!

Well, in the words of Jerry Garcia "What a long, strange trip it's been". We started the season and I definitely was not forecasting a trip to CWOSSA. However, this group of girls has worked harder than any other team I have ever coached. They may not be a fantastic basketball team, but they are fantastic. They have so much heart and they do not know the definition of quit.
They represented the school so well today at CWOSSA. They played probably the best team they have ever seen and so today was the team's last game. Please congratulate the girls on an excellent season. I am proud of them.

Barrday Holocaust Art Competition

Last year we entered a piece of choreography as a submission for a Holocaust Art Competition held by Barrday.  Our piece won!  There are two students, Megan Hertner and Amanda Fronchak that are dancing in the piece.  The students are being awarded and honoured on Tuesday November 29 at SJAM in Waterloo.  The evening begins at 7:00 pm.

Powerlifters have Rookie Success!

Doyle students did well this past weekend at the annual OPA Powerlift highschool meet held at Eastwood Collegiate. John Pitts won silver for his weight class Curtis Dwyer won bronze and Alex Reposa completed all 9 of his attempts but came up short. It was a great experience for the 2 new comers to the club, John Pitts supported Curtis and Alex with his experience and technical back ground.

Mustangs Rock the Rim Tournament

Another successful Mustang Jr/Sr tournament this weekend. Both teams played extremely well. The seniors have improved one hundred percent in the last month and played in some highly contested games this weekend. There will be lots of buzz coming from this team on Monday about their final game with Pauline Johnson.

Thanks to everyone who brought their classes down to watch the girls play on Friday. The girls loved having a packed house. And thanks to Mr. Snyder for stopping by Saturday. Great to see a friendly face. This tournament is always a hit with the locals and other teams always love coming. They have said they always feel so welcome in our gym.
